Our Journeys

This page shows our main adventures and all photos are linked to one particular trip. For example, there are trips to the savanna of South-Africa and Kenya, to the shores and islands of the Shetlands and of course shorter trips in the Netherlands. All the species names, both English and Scientific, are added under the introduction text per Journey.

Be aware when looking at some of the photos, if the shot was vertical it may not show nicely below. Click on the photo, to see the whole and clear image. Enjoy!

Journeys

Sweden

Sweden

Sweden is an ongoing journey, since Rick is living there at the moment. So you can expect to see new photos almost every time you visit the website. Living in the middle of the forest is perfect to make small trips and focus on species such as moose, black grouse, carnivores (from hides) and many others. You can find photos from around Grimsö, some from during fieldwork in Värmland/Jämtland and visits to nature parks such as Järvzoo. Some are also added to the gallery page!

Shetlands 2019

Shetlands 2019

So in 2019, Ron returned to the Shetlands. To once again enjoy the harsh environment with its hard wind and many rainy days. Still, he was able to make spectacular photos and see many species. This time the puffins were posing beautifully.

Species list (left to right): Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - Arctic Skua (Stercorarius parasiticus) - Puffin (Fratercula arctica) - Puffin (Fratercula arctica) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - Puffin (Fratercula arctica)

Shetlands 2018

Shetlands 2018

During 2018, a new part of the UK was discovered by Ron. The Shetlands have everything we need: steep cliffs, coast line and water. This mix is calling for beautiful settings and species. This first trip was not enough, so Ron went back in 2019, to enjoy otters, gannets and many other species.

Species list (left to right): Puffin (Fratercula arctica) - Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) - Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) - Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) - European otter (Lutra lutra) - Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) - Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus)

South-Africa

South-Africa

In 2010, we visited South-Africa for the second time. Only one thing was different during this trip: Ron bought his new camera equipment, which resulted in beautiful pictures. Actually focusing on birds, the elephants, giraffes, lions and leopards were definitely not ignored. Here are some photos from that journey

Species list (left to right): African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) - Lilac Breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) - Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres) - Leopard (Panthera pardus) - Lion (Panthera leo) - Leopard (Panthera pardus) - Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta) - Leopard (Panthera pardus)

Kenya

Kenya

After two times in South-Africa, in 2012 we decided to visit another african country, namely Kenya. Starting around Mount Kenya, visiting Lake Naivasha and ending on the savanne plains of the Masai Mara (with many other stops). We had an amazing journey through all kinds of habitats and witnessed beautiful species.

Species list (left to right): Bateleur (Terathopius ecaudatus) - Elephant (Loxodonta africana) - Gerenuk (Litocranius walleri) - Lion (Panthera leo) - White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) - African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) - Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) - Hadada Ibis (Bostrychia hagedash) - Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus)

Poland

Poland

From 2016 to 2018, Rick went to Poland with Van Hall Larenstein (university). Here they visited both Bialowieza Forest and Biebzra National Park. During these years many species were seen, but not all captured on photo. But the last year both the camera equipment and the luck was perfect, so this resulted in some beautiful species.

Estonia

Estonia

Rick went to Estonia in 2016 with a group of friends, aiming to see as much wildlife as possible, focusing on birds, mammals and also insects. This resulted in some nice close-ups. Maybe in the future some of the bird species captured by the others will be added.

Canada

Canada

In 2016, Rick was in Canada for an internship with the Wolverine Project of Alberta University. During this period, he did both fieldwork in the Rocky Mountains and Northern-Alberta: Enjoying totally new habitats and species, the camera equipment was not always able to capture the moments. Still there are some photos worth showing.
